Rajai Davis has agreed to terms with Acereros de Monclova of the Mexican League.
Davis will be teammates with Bartolo Colon, who agreed to join the team on Thursday. The speedy outfielder struggled in a small sample with the Mets with a .631 OPS over 26 plate appearances. He turned 39 in October, but a good showing in the Mexican League could give him another chance with an MLB club either late in 2020 or in 2021 if he keeps playing/performs well.
  • INT Outfield #18
Rajai Davis hit a pinch-hit three-run double in the Mets’ defeat of the Dodgers on Saturday.
Davis drove a ball into the left field corner with the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth inning to break a 0-0 stalemate at Citi Field. It was the only run-scoring event for either side all night. The veteran outfielder is batting .200/.238/.450 with seven RBI in 21 games this season.
  • INT Outfield #18
Mets purchased the contract of OF Rajai Davis from Triple-A Syracuse.
Davis had a brief stint with the Mets during the first half, but he was designated for assignment before remaining with the team’s Triple-A affiliate. The 38-year-old should be a useful bench player and part-timer down the stretch.
  • INT Outfield #18
Mets sent OF Rajai Davis outright to Triple-A Syracuse.
Davis was designated for assignment by New York on Sunday and passed through waivers unclaimed. The 38-year-old could have elected to become a free agent, but he has spent most of the 2019 season at Syracuse and will head back there to continue serving as organizational outfield depth for the Mets.
  • INT Outfield #18
Mets designated OF Rajai Davis for assignment.
Davis played hero with a go-ahead three-run homer in his first plate appearance with the Mets on Wednesday, but the club doesn’t have room for him with Michael Conforto (concussion) returning. They hope that Davis will pass through waivers and remain in the organization.
  • INT Outfield #18
Rajai Davis got a chance to pinch-hit in the eighth-inning and slugged a three-run bomb against the Nationals in a 6-1 win on Wednesday.
He made quite a splash in his first at-bat of the season. Davis had been in the minors all year until getting promoted to fill in for Brandon Nimmo (neck). Davis pinch-hit for the pitcher in the eighth inning and broke the game open by crushing a three-run shot off of Nationals closer Sean Doolittle. He had just one homer in 101 games for Cleveland last year. The veteran journeyman will serve as a backup outfielder for as long as he sticks on the roster.
  • INT Outfield #18
Mets purchased the contract of OF Rajai Davis from Triple-A Syracuse.
Davis is getting the call to replace Brandon Nimmo, who was placed on the injured list with a strained neck. Signed to a minor-league deal this winter, the 38-year-old outfielder was slashing .277/.344/.403 in the International League with 14 steals in 37 games. He’s always had the ability to provide bag thefts, but the rest of the offensive skill set at this point in his career is lacking.
  • INT Outfield #18
Mets reassigned outfielder Rajai Davis to minor league camp.
The writing was on the wall for this move as soon as the Mets traded for Keon Broxton earlier this offseason. The 38-year-old has lived on the fringes of fantasy usefulness throughout his career for one reason -- he can steal bases by the bushel. He has swiped as many as 50 bases in a single season and owns 415 for his career, which ranks him 66th on the all-time career list. It is not yet clear if he will report to the minor leagues or if the Mets will ultimately cut him loose. He could latch on with another team as a backup outfielder.
  • NYM Catcher #29
Devin Mesoraco, Adeiny Hechavarria and Rajai Davis all went unclaimed via their upward mobility clauses.
The clause would allow any of the trio to leave the Mets if another club wished to add them to their 25-man roster, but there wasn’t any interest. The Mets can now add them to their 25-man roster themselves or send them to the minor leagues.
  • INT Outfield #18
Rajai Davis homered and doubled Tuesday in a losing cause against the Tigers.
Davis made some sense for the Mets when he signed in December, but after the Keon Broxton trade, it’s hard to see how he hits. Maybe there will be room for him if it turns out Jeff McNeil is needed in the infield. Otherwise, he’ll likely be looking for a spot elsewhere prior to Opening Day.
