The Jaguars are attempting to work out a multi-year deal with restricted free agent LB Russell Allen.
Allen has appeared in all 48 games since signing as an undrafted free agent in 2009, making 15 starts. He played 293 snaps in 2011, grading out positively against the run and in coverage by Pro Football Focus.

Jaguars signed LB Russell Allen to a three-year, $6 million contract.
Per TheSidelineView.com’s Adam Caplan, Allen is receiving just over $1 million guaranteed. A restricted free agent, Allen was tendered at the second-round level just prior to agreeing on the new deal. The Jaguars value Allen highly after he held his own while filling in for Clint Session (concussions) late last season. Allen will return to a reserve/special teams role in 2012.

Russell Allen is expected to replace Clint Session (injured reserve, concussions) in the starting lineup.
Allen, a former undrafted free agent, will step in on the weak side. He started four games at outside linebacker last season, piling up 42 tackles.

Jaguars WLB Clint Session (concussion) has still not been cleared to practice.
Session sustained three concussions last year before his season ended in November. He also had a “terrifying” concussion in college. Beat writer Vito Stellino suggests that Session’s career could be in jeopardy. Russell Allen is the backup at weak-side linebacker.

The Florida Times Union expects Russell Allen to challenge Clint Session for the Jaguars’ starting weak-side linebacker job.
Allen is at worst the Jaguars’ top backup at all three linebacker positions, and he held his own in six spot starts last season. With a new coaching staff in Jacksonville, Session’s $29 million contract no longer carries as much weight in camp battles. Session was concussed three times last year.
  • FA Linebacker #55
Jaguars placed WLB Clint Session (concussions) and DE John Chick (knee) on reserve/PUP.
Session sustained three concussions in 2011 and had a severe one in college. Much like Jahvid Best and Austin Collie, he’s wisely exercising extreme caution now. The Jags will be forced to roll with Russell Allen at weak-side linebacker. He had 38 tackles, one interception and two forced fumbles in six starts last season.
  • FA Coaching Staff #51
Paul Posluszny set the Jaguars unofficial franchise record for tackles (231), breaking Hardy Nickerson’s 2001 record of 230.
The Jacksonville coaching staff was liberal in their tackle count, also awarding WLB Russell Allen (201) the third-highest total in franchise history. The Florida Times-Union suggests there may have been some “fuzzy math” on Posluszny’s total, as he broke Nickerson’s record by one tackle. Posluszny graded out near the bottom of Pro Football Focus’ ratings for 2012.

Jaguars WLB Russell Allen left last night’s game with a walking boot on his right ankle.
Allen was injured on the first play of the game. There are no further details at this time, but if Allen was to miss any time, the Jags will look to Julian Stanford or Brandon Marshall to step up.

Jaguars placed WLB Russell Allen (concussion) on injured reserve, ending his season.
Allen appeared in 14 games as the Jaguars’ weak-side linebacker, posting 64 tackles, one sack and three tackles for a loss. He graded out as Pro Football Focus’ No. 16 4-3 outside linebacker among 34 qualifiers. Allen is a decent bet to be back in Jacksonville next year for the final year of his current contract at $1.975 million.

Jaguars MLB Paul Posluszny (concussion) has been cleared.
It’s safe for IDP owners to get Posluszny back into lineups ahead of the Week 12 game against the Texans. He’s averaging 9.7 tackles per game on the year with one sack, one forced fumble and two interceptions.
