Chelsea is going to work.

“If you run more than the others, you have more probability to win,” said new boss Antonio Conte in his first press conference as boss of the London outfit.

“If you want to win you must play good, attractive football but also have a good physical condition.”

The Blues had a disappointing 2015-16 under Jose Mourinho and then Guus Hiddink, and saw several of its stars fail to meet their previous standards.

Eden Hazard and Cesc Fabregas were among the players whispered to have purposely let down their manager. It didn’t fly for Mourinho, and it won’t fly from Day One under Conte. The manager impressed during a debut presser at Chelsea’s Cobham training ground.

The Italian manager also said he’s not worried about the stresses of the Premier League’s crucible, transcribed by Sky Sports:

“The pressure for me is not important because I was born with pressure. It is normal, because when you are a player or a manager of a great football club, like Chelsea, you must play to win.

“To win the title, to fight at the end to compete with the other teams to win the title, to reach your targets. I know that this league is very, very difficult because there are six, seven teams that can win the title and, for this reason, the situation, it excites me.”

Given the rigors of the human cycle, we’re all born with pressure, but I digress.

Conte noted that John Terry will captain the side whenever he played, and that he was kept around not to be a model, but to perform.

Some other notes:

Conte: ‘I suffer during the game. I want my players and the fans to see this. We work very hard to reach our targets.’

Conte: ‘I am a worker. I know only this road to win. I found the right attitude and behaviours in Cobham. I’m very happy for this’.

Conte: ‘When I was in Italy I liked to say the coach is like a tailor, who must make the best dress for the team.’
