Arsenal announced the deal on Thursday, with Szczesny behind Petr Cech and David Ospina in the list of goalkeepers at Emirates Stadium.

Szczesny, who has been at Arsenal since 2006, played 34 matches in Serie A for Roma last season and helped the team finish in third place.

In the second-tier League Championship, Aston Villa signed Scotland striker Ross McCormack from Fulham for 12 million pounds ($15.75 million).
