Arsene Wenger has been manager at Arsenal since 1996, so he knows a good team when he sees one, and it looks like he’s being honest with himself about the best team in Premier League; and to him, it’s not the Gunners.
Rather, the Frenchman, who has seen his side fall into rocky form following their 2-1 loss to Swansea this weekend, has declared that Chelsea, having the highest point total (29 pts.) has the best title outlook at this juncture. Reigning winner Manchester City trails the Blues by eight points, and the surprise team of the year, Southampton, stands the closest to Jose Mourinho’s crew with 25 point.
Meanwhile, Arsenal sits 12 points back, and while newcomer Alexis Sanchez has flashed quality on the offensive end, their clinical finishing ability hasn’t nearly matched the boys at Stamford Bridge.
Wenger accepts the fact that, at least for now, Chelsea is statistically the top in the PL
“At the moment Chelsea are on course for 100 points this season,” he said, per Sky Sports. “If you look at the number of points they have, if they keep that up nobody will catch them, that’s for sure. There doesn’t look to be anybody capable to challenge them at the moment.”
Wenger compared this year’s Stamford Bridge squad to some he’s had in the past, when fast starts resulted in success in the long run, based on maintaing that momentum throughout the entire season.
“There is no obvious reason. They had a good start, and we have gone through that [in the past], as long as you don’t lose, you don’t question yourself, there is a little bit extra spirit in the team that, when it is tight, gets them through.”
