Bayern Munich survives early scare to advance past Benfica in Champions League

Goals from Thomas Muller and Arturo Vidal helped Bayern Munich to a 3-2 aggregate win over Benfica in the UEFA Champions League quarters.

Bayern led 1-0 after the first leg, but saw things leveled by Raul Jimenez before it added two road goals to cruise to the semis.

Anderson Talisca scored a gorgeous free kick late, but Benfica needed two more away goals to advance. That’s a tall ask against Manuel Neuer, and the leg finished 2-2.

The lead wouldn’t last long, as the ball bounded out beyond the 18 for Vidal. The Chilean struck it out of the air with power, a laser to the top corner to make it 1-1 and Bayern an away goal.

Bayern then saw Thomas Muller with an easy goal from Javi Martinez’s header. The close range finish made it two away goals, and Bayern was surely through.
