Things just continue to fall apart at the top of the soccer structure in the Americas.
Bolivian Football Federation president and CONMEBOL treasurer Carlos Chavez was arrested in the southern city of Sucre for “alleged corruption in the management of resources,” according to Bolivia’s public prosecutor.
Chavez was brought in for eight hours of questioning before police ordered him arrested and jailed.
Of the widespread United States investigation into FIFA corruption, the initial sweep included mostly North and South American soccer officials, and this only serves to strengthen the claims of rampant corruption across the Americas. Bolivian police also confirmed that others were being investigated for similar claims.
Bolivia began seriously investigating its own federation after the May arrests of 14 officials in Zurich, Switzerland and around the world. So far over 20 Bolivian executives have given testimony, and another executive - Secretary General and disciplinary committee member Alberto Lozada - has also recently been arrested for match-fixing.
