Cavani apologizes for Jamaica/Africa comments: “Perceived quite wrong”

Edinson Cavani insists he’s made an innocent mistake and a worse explanation.

The Paris Saint-Germain striker is getting ready to open up Copa America play with Uruguay, and will come face-to-face with Jamaica.

The Reggae Boyz are not from Africa. Cavani knows this, of course, but made an unfortunate comparison in describing the team.

Cavani said it will be tough to play Jamaica in part because they are “an African team, which we all know focus on their physical strength.”

I suppose it doesn’t matter whether you buy Cavani’s explanation, but his apology does seem contrite and honest.
