Big-spending champions tend to be the target of criticism, but Jose Mourinho understands that it’s warranted this time around.
Chelsea is struggling in both England and Europe, and making the headlines for the wrong reasons.

Whether it be the alleged misogynistic abuse of Dr. Eva Carneiro or the condoning of punkish play from his players, Mourinho is under the gun.
And he knows it’s bad. “The worst” of his career, in fact, but he’s not worried.
From the BBC:Mourinho said there were no unrest within the Chelsea squad and his players were behaving in a “great” manner, despite the side being eight points behind Premier League leaders Manchester United.
“The players, when they make a mistake, they know and they feel,” he said. “We speak openly, no prima donnas. When you make a mistake you have to speak about it. I call it ‘coaching’.”
Mourinho also said he’ll one day open up regarding the Carneiro incident, saying, “I read, and listen, and watch, and I am quiet.”
It probably is the worst spell of his career, even accounting for past struggles in club managing. The fact of the matter is that those times were based on either debatable actions or disappointing results, not both. Still, we’re betting on Mou to turn it around.
