Soccer fans in the United States will have the chance to observe domestic talent going head-to-head with skill abroad, as it was announced that Valencia CF, a top side in Spain’s La Liga, will play Columbus Crew SC in a friendly at Mapfre Stadium on May 27.

Valencia, currently at fourth place in the league table with 72 points, has quite the arduous matchup on Saturday--the third-to-last game of the year--with title-chasing Real Madrid being the opponent. This season showed improvement over the 2013-14 season for the Spanish outfit when the Oranges finished at eighth place with a mere 49-point tally.

Over to MLS, Columbus has won three of eight total competitions, and sit at 4th place in the Eastern Conference behind the New York Red Bulls, New England Revolution and D.C. United.

According to The Columbus Dispatch, the Crew is 10-5-3 all-time in international exhibitions following a 2-2 draw to Crystal Palace this past summer.

“Valencia is an exciting team with a lot of young, talented players and it’s going to be a great test for our group,” Crew manager Gregg Berhalter said, via The Dispatch. “I also have a personal connection to the club after visiting the club last year. I was impressed by the warmth and professionalism of the people.”

“MAPFRE Stadium has long been the site for captivating international matches and we are pleased to welcome Valencia CF to Central Ohio for this match,” said Crew SC President of Business Operations Andy Loughnane in a statement, per
