Crystal Palace 1-3 West Ham United: Hammers win it late on

West Ham United beat 10-man Crystal Palace 3-1 at Selhurst Park on Saturday, as Carl Jenkinson gave the Hammers the lead but Palace fought back as Yohan Cabaye scored a penalty before half time.

After Dwight Gayle was sent off before half time, West Ham were rampant in the second half and finally got the win their pressure deserved with Manuel Lanzini and Dmitri Payet both scoring late on to make it 3-1.

With the win West Ham momentarily moved up to third on 17 points, while Palace stay in sixth on 15 points.

The Hammers started the game very brightly as Payet wasted a good chance to put the Hammers ahead, however, 21 mins in the East London side took the lead. Victor Moses set up Carl Jenkinson to slot home the opener. 1-0.

However, moments later Palace were level as they won a penalty kick when Jenkinson turned from hero to zero as he fouled Gayle in the box. Cabaye had to take the spot kick twice due to encroachment, but slammed home both times to score his fourth goal of the season and third from the penalty spot. 1-1.

On the stroke of half time came a moment of real controversy as Gayle was shown a second yellow card to leave Palace with 10-men after he fouled Cheikhou Kouyate to leave Alan Pardew’s men with an uphill struggle to get anything from the game.

In the second half it was all West Ham as Diafra Sakho sent a header against the foot of the post, and Slaven Bilic sent on Andy Carroll late on to try and grab a fifth-straight away win to start the season for the Hammers.

In the dying stages the Hammers grabbed the win as Carroll’s knockdown couldn’t be forced home by Nikica Jelavic but Lanzini scored to make it 2-1 and send the traveling supporters wild. Payet added some more gloss to the scoreline with a cool finish, as West Ham’s fans are dreaming of acheiveing something special this season.
