David Moyes reveals his Spanish teacher is a Manchester United fan

David Moyes is settling in well in San Sebastian as Real Sociedad manager.

Speaking to Guillem Balague for Spanish outlet AS, the former Everton and Manchester United manager gave plenty of details on his life behind-the-scenes in Spain since he arrived in 2014.

Moyes, 51, also revealed something rather startling about his Spanish teacher.

His teacher supports Manchester United.

That may seem innocuous enough, but after Moyes’ terrible spell in charge at Old Trafford last season, does he really want to be learning Spanish from someone who may hold a grudge against him? I’m sure his teacher is perfectly professional but maybe the terms “to fail” and “top four” should wait until later in his education...

Jokes aside, here’s the inside scoop on how Moyes’ Spanish is coming along:

“I am taking classes, with homework and everything. But I know that I will not speak fluently in a short period of time. My assistant Billy McKinlay’s teacher doesn’t speak a single word of English, so they have to speak Castilian (Spanish) the whole time. My teacher is a Manchester United fan, so you can imagine that we speak a lot about football. That helps me to practice the football language. Some things I understand, but what I do see is that the people talk very quickly. And I can’t tell you with the Basque. I will have to tell them to speak slower (laughs).”
