Edin Dzeko has signed a new four-year deal with Manchester City that will keep him at the Etihad Stadium through 2018.

The Bosnia-Herzegovina striker, who notched a brilliant assist on David Silva’s goal in the 2-0 opening win over Newcastle on Sunday, has made 155 total appearances for City since joining from Wolfsburg in January 2011.

Since that time Dzeko has gone on to score 66 goals for the Citizens, including 26 last term across four competitions during which they claimed Premier League and Capital One Cup titles.

Upon signing the new contract, Dzeko spoke to the club’s official website. “I’m really happy here at City, it’s a second home to me, so it was an easy decision to stay for the long-term. I knew from the beginning when I started here that I wanted to stay for a long time - I can’t see any place better than here.”

After a rocky start under previous manager, Roberto Mancini, Dzeko has found at home in Manchester. “I’m settled perfectly to life here, I know my teammates, the club, the team, very well and I feel like I can improve even more. Over the last three and a half years we’ve made history together but I feel like we are only at the start of something really special.”

Dzeko becomes the sixth player this summer to sign a new contract with the club following Silva, Vincent Kompany, Sergio Aguero, Aleksander Kolarov and Samir Nasri.
