Newcastle United could have a new Big Boss Man.
Wait, we can do better.
Whatcha gonna do when Newcastle United runs wild on you, brother?
Hmmm...
Do you smell what Loic is cooking?
(I had to look up so many wrestling catch phrases just to get to this point in the post).
Whispers of Mike Ashley’s desire to sell the team are nothing new, especially for those who frequent Newcastle United web sites and rumor mills. After all, he’s not the most popular character in Northeast England and he’s keen on turning tidy profits, something that may be possible if he were to flip the club (He bought NUFC for about $226 million and Forbes rated its value as $263 million in April).
But what about Vince McMahon, the CEO of World Wrestling Entertainment? “Sources” tell a British web site called Winner Sports that the billionaire may be interested in purchasing Newcastle United as a way to increase the influence of his professional wrestling powerhouse in the United Kingdom.
Earlier this year, the Guardian came out to debunk a rumor that McMahon nearly bought Newcastle in 2011, so is this just rehashing of a sad old story? Potentially and maybe probably, but don’t let that stop you from enjoying some of the Twitter reaction to this rumor.Vince McMahon buying NUFC? He will fit right in... You have to wonder how many NUFC supporters would consider their new owner being a man who runs “rigged” sports for a living as an upgrade over their current boss. The club is mired in an awful spell of soccer, and Ashley hasn’t exactly made the most prudent hires.
