FA Cup third round preview: Potential upsets galore as Premier League big boys arrive

Get ready for some giant killings.

The first weekend of January means only one thing in England... the FA Cup third round.

World soccer’s oldest knockout competition welcomes teams from the top two tiers of the English soccer pyramid this weekend, as Premier League and Championship sides enter the fray as the final 64 teams are left standing.

Three ties which stick out include non-league Gateshead Town (from the Conference Premier, the fifth-tier) playing PL side West Bromwich Albion, plus another Conference Premier side Dover Atheltic host PL side Crystal Palace down by those famous white cliffs and Stoke City will look to avoid an upset at home to Conference outfit Wrexham.

Manchester United head down to play Yeovil from League One in Louis van Gaal’s first FA Cup outing plus Liverpool head to AFC Wimbledon in another potential upset, while there are four all-Premier League ties.
