Friday Transfer Rumor Roundup: McGeady to Everton, Gundogan to United

Aidan McGeady

Friday’s transfer rumor roundup is led by Everton’s interest in Spartak Moscow winger Aidan McGeady. The speedy Irishman has been on Roberto Martinez’ dial for awhile now and although the Toffees boss laughed off rumors that McGeady was in town for a medical, many believe this deal is as good as done.

Sticking with the theme of Everton and speedy wingers, rumors are flying that the Blues are in for Blackpool’s Tom Ince. But considering Everton’s current crop of wingers - Steven Pienaar, Kevin Mirallas and the injured Gerard Deulofeu - a move for Ince seems likely only to transpire if the McGeady deal is scratched.

Over at Manchester United, David Moyes is said to have his sites set on Juventus’ Claudio Marchisio and Borussia Dortmund’s Ilkay Gundogan, either of whom would be a welcome change in the Red Devils struggling midfield.

While Moyes will be happy to add to his squad, losing stars is something he can’t afford. Cue Jose Mourinho’s continued interest in striker Wayne Rooney. The England international’s contract has less than 18 months to run at United and without any contract talks taking place, a move to Chelsea could turn the striker’s head. Mourinho, however, is refusing to talk about the link.

Gus Poyet is looking to make moves in January with Estudiantes defender Santiago Vergini, Catania goalkeeper Mariano Andújar and Internacional midfielder Ignacio Scocco all on his radar. Anyone and everyone to help avoid relegation will be the view of Sunderland fans.

Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata has been linked to Arsenal for months now so Liverpool figure the time has come to throw their hat in the race. Brendan Rodgers has also been watching Dynamo Kyiv’s Andriy Yarmolenko and thinks he may be a great fit to his free-scoring side.

Meanwhile, Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert continues his interest in signing Wes Hoolahan from Norwich City, Mark Hughes is contemplating the permanent signing of on-loan winger Oussama Assaidi, and despite Tottenham’s record signing Erik Lamela being linked with loan moves to Inter Milan and Juventus, manager Tim Sherwood claims the Argentine is staying put.
