How about that Bastian Schweinsteiger? All this…and good dude, too?

Well, that’s just too much.

Yesterday against the Dutch, Germany’s midfield passing machine ran his side with a steely, highly skilled composure. Netherlands had no answer for the accuracy, touch and variety Schweinsteiger was offering in the middle third and final third. Both of his assists in the 2-1 victory were exercises in astute positioning and precision passing.

And did he spent the first post-game moments relishing in personal and team achievement? Nah. He spent them consoling his country’s rivals. When asked what he told Dutch captain Mark van Bommel as they left the field, here’s what Schweinsteiger said:

All I did was tell him that we’ll give our all against Denmark and then it is in their hands to win against the Portuguese. There is no need to tell you he was very disappointed, but I am confident the Dutch will beat the Portuguese.”
