French captain Hugo Lloris has signed a new five-year deal at Tottenham Hotspur after enjoying a stellar World Cup.
Lloris, 27, has committed his long-term future to Spurs as he signed the new contract just days after returning from Brazil where he led France to a spot in the last eight.
The man known as the “sweeper-keeper” attracted plenty of interest after several eye-catching displays this summer but has decided to remain at White Hart Lane for the foreseeable future.
Lloris joined Spurs from Lyon in 2012 and has played 78 times for the Premier League side.
Speaking to the club website about his new deal, Lloris revealed that the ambition of the chairman and new manager Mauricio Pochettino were pivotal factors in his decision to extend his stay in England.
Securing Lloris is a huge boost for Spurs as the likes of Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain were rumored to be sniffing around the Frenchman. Over the past two seasons he has been a rock at the back for Tottenham and with Pochettino setting up his teams to be solid and hard to break down, he will be relying on the Lloris to keep plenty of clean sheets.
Now Lloris can concentrate on having a short break before linking up with his Tottenham teammates on their tour of North America this summer. Lloris and Spurs will play against the Seattle Sounders, Chicago Fire and Toronto FC from Major League Soccer as they prepare to better their sixth places PL finish from last season.
