ICYMI: Insane 90-yard volley sets Bundesliga record for longest goal

This weekend saw some insane storylines, but the bonkers goal that graced the Bundesliga may be the most mind-blowing.

Paderborn has taken the German league by storm, as they sit tied with three other teams - including Bayern Munich - at the top of the table. They take on Bayern next week, but this weekend’s fireworks will give them plenty of confidence.

27-year-old winger Moritz Stoppelkamp bagged one of the more spectacular goals you’ll see this year in a 2-0 win over Hannover on Saturday. Late in the game with Hannover down 1-0, they sent their goalkeeper up for a free-kick and it backfired.

Stoppelkamp picked up the clearance, and with nobody back, he blasted a volley down the field. With the goal gaping, the ball found its target from 90 yards away, and it sealed the win for Paderborn, setting the record for longest Bundesliga goal in the process.

The shot showed amazing body control by Stoppelkamp to level his body and still find the power to blast the ball across the pitch.

It’s Stoppelkamp’s second goal of the season, but it wasn’t all he provided in the match. The Dusseldorf-born winger completed 26/29 passes in the match and provided a number of dangerous deliveries into the box.

The Bundesliga new-boys will need all he and the rest of the team can bring in their match Tuesday.
