It’s official: Petr Cech has swapped London clubs, Chelsea to Arsenal

That picture is weird, but we’ll get used to it.

It’s been rumored for so long that it’s hardly news, and the photos don’t lie: Petr Cech has swapped Stamford Bridge for the Emirates Stadium.

The Chelsea legend is now an Arsenal newcomer, as the 33-year-old Cech has agreed to terms with the Gunners.

Cech had fallen behind Thibaut Courtois on the depth chart despite an almost-unending string of history-making seasons with the Blues. After agreeing to spend a season as Courtois’ backup, owner Roman Abramovich honored his agreement to let Cech choose his next stop.

And it’s a London rival.

From Arsenal’s official site:

Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger said: “Petr Cech is a player that I have admired for a long time and I am very pleased that he has decided to join us. He has proven over many seasons that he is one of the outstanding keepers in the world and he will add great strength to our squad.”

New signing Cech said: “I’m really excited about joining Arsenal Football Club and can’t wait to join up for pre-season. I have the same commitment to football, the same motivation and the same hunger for success as I had at the beginning of my career, and I love the challenges brought by the top quality players you face while playing in the Premier League. When Arsène Wenger spoke to me about his ambitions for this club, and how he saw me as part of this team, the decision was clear.”

Arsenal visits Chelsea on Sept. 19, and it should be an interesting experience for Cech, and hopefully an overwhelmingly positive and grateful response from the Chelsea faithful.
