Jurgen Klopp’s Reds were on cruise control for 45 minutes, probably more, but still came away with just a single point from Saturday’s home match versus Newcastle.

Daniel Sturridge and Adam Lallana scored first half goals, and Liverpool looked well on its way to an easy win over the relegation-battling Magpies.

But former Reds boss Rafa Benitez watched as his Magpies struck twice in the second half to earn what could be a pivotal point in the Premier League’s race for 17th.

“What can I say? It was the intensive game I expected. We did well against a team who fight for, I don’t want to make it too big, but for their life in the Premier League.
“To be honest, I don’t believe they had another shot on goal for Newcastle. They had two shots, two goals, hmph.

“It doesn’t feel like you’ve won a point. You’ve lost two.”

The Reds’ slim hopes to encroach on the PL’s Top Five take a big hit with the draw, while Newcastle must be top-flight life is very much in play.
