The third round of the League Cup got underway today with ten games, including three all-Premier League match-ups. Southampton earned a hard win away at Arsenal, while Stoke City came from behind to defeat Sunderland. Everton looked sluggish once again as Swansea City handed the Toffees a 3-0 defeat.

Liverpool will move onto the fourth round after a wild match that saw Championship side Middlesbrough force penalties with a goal in the 123rd minute. The shootout went an amazing 15 rounds before an Albert Adomah miss gave Liverpool the 14-13 win in one of the most unbelievable games you will ever see.

Arsenal 1 Southampton 2

Ronald Koeman’s men continue their strong run of play with a big 2-1 win at the Emirates. First half goals from Dusan Tadic and Nathaniel Clyne helped lead the Saints over Arsenal following Alexis Sanchez’s opener.

Sunderland 1 Stoke City 2

A Jozy Altidore strike gave Sunderland an early lead, but a brace from Marc Muniesa helped push Stoke City into the fourth round.

Liverpool 2 Middlesbrough 2 (Liverpool wins 14-13 on penalty kicks)

A 109th minute goal from Suso seemed to have secured the win for Liverpool, but a Patrick Bramford penalty on the brink of time forced the match into a shootout. Both teams put on a penalty exhibition, cooly burying shot after shot. Both goalkeepers were forced to shoot as it went 15 rounds before a Middlesbrough miss gave Liverpool the win 14-13.

Swansea City 3 Everton 0

Swansea City pounced on a struggling Everton side, cruising to a 3-0 win in Wales. Nathan Dyer opened the scoring in the 28th minute while Marvin Emnes sealed the deal with Swansea’s third goal late in the match.

Shrewsbury Town 1 Norwich City 0

After knocking out Premier League side Leicester City in the second round, Shrewsbury Town of League Two defeated Championship side Norwich City. A James Collins header in the 54th minute helped the fourth-tier side advance and keep their dream run going.
