Leicester City 2-5 Arsenal: Alexis simply too much for Foxes

  • Hat trick for Alexis
  • Vardy with a pair in defeat
  • Gunners leaprog Foxes for fourth

When Alexis Sanchez is on, he is on, and there’s no doubt as to whether his switch was flipped in Arsenal’s 5-2 win over Leicester City at King Power Stadium on Saturday.

Alexis’ three goals were bookended by goals from Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud, as the Gunners buried the Foxes despite a pair of Jamie Vardy goals on Sunday.

The Foxes used their great pace to set the tone at King Power Stadium, where the relentless running of Vardy allowed him a simple finish and Leicester an early lead.

But Walcott raced onto a through ball and passed a left-footed ball off the inside of the post and into the goal to have things level before the match was 20 minutes old.

Walcott nearly gave the Gunners their first lead. While a tackle denied him the chance, Alexis buried his opportunity to put Arsenal up 2-1.

Sanchez doubled the lead when he flew over the outstretched hand of Kasper Schmeichel to head Mesut Ozil’s pass home. He’d complete his hat trick in the match’s final 10 minutes.

Claudio Ranieri’s tinkering had no chance of leading another comeback, but Vardy completed his brace off a goal mouth scramble in the match’s final minutes.

Giroud added a goal from the general vicinity of the penalty spot in stoppage time to complete the scoring.
