Lionel Messi heading to PSG, Chelsea? Not so fast, say Barcelona

Lionel Messi not playing in a Barcelona shirt? That’s pretty unthinkable at this point.

However the Argentine superstar, who has spent his entire career at the Nou Camp and has scored over 400 goals for Barca, has been repeatedly linked with a move away from the Spanish giants this summer.

Messi, 27, would no doubt demand the highest wages and transfer fee soccer has ever seen if he did make a move away from Catalonia but only a handful of teams could afford him.

Rumors suggest that Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea would all snap Barca’s hand off if Messi became available.

Barcelona’s President Josep Maria Bartomeu has moved to dismiss speculation regarding Messi’s future and had the following to say according to Sky Sports.

“The window is now closed and nobody is talking about new signings any more,” Bartomeu said. “The possibility of Messi moving keeps coming up, but we haven’t considered it. He’s very happy here and we’ll have Messi for many years. I hope he’ll retire at our club.”

Messi is the four-time World Player of the Year, almost captained Argentina to World Cup success in 2014 and has won every domestic and European title possible with Barcelona so far during his career.

If he ever left the Nou Camp, PSG, Chelsea or City would likely give him a blank checkbook to pay him whatever he wants.

Can anyone ever see that happening?
