Magpies “euphoric” after shock defeat of Spurs; Mitrovic did it for his trainer

Tottenham Hotspur v Newcastle United - Premier League

LONDON, ENGLAND - DECEMBER 13: Ayoze Perez of Newcastle United (17) is mobbed in celebration by team mates as he scores their second goal during the Barclays Premier League match between Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United at White Hart Lane on December 13, 2015 in London, England. Newcastle United’s comeback win at White Hart Lane was a weird result, so it’s fitting the reaction from goal hero Aleksandar Mitrovic is just as odd as the 2-1 victory itself.

The Magpies trailed 1-0 on an Eric Dier first half goal, but got second half substitute scores from Mitrovic and Ayoze Perez to claim all three points and jump out of the drop zone.

Did Mitrovic do it for the fans? Did he do it for his family? Who knows? But he definitely did it for his... trainer.

From the BBC:

“I’ve worked with the fitness coach every day when I came on he said I was going to score. It was a goal for him today. Rob, too was on fire.”

NeThe Rob he refers to is Newcastle goalkeeper Elliot, and the Irishman made some serious saves for the Magpies.

“It’s a bit euphoric to be fair, the fans have been unbelievable sticking with us,” he said. “The lads were amazing and after last week, we had to make sure we didn’t take our foot off the gas.”

The Magpies pushed Norwich into the drop zone, also leapfrogging Chelsea and Swansea City. Newcastle is home to Aston Villa and Everton in its next two fixtures
