United snapped a six-game winless streak thanks to a stoppage-time goal from Alvaro Saborio, becoming the second team from the Eastern Conference to clinch a berth in the postseason. On a cold and rainy night at RFK Stadium, Frank Lampard gave NYCFC a lead in the opening minute, but D.C. had the better of play throughout the second half and rallied to score deep into stoppage time. With the win, D.C. United joins the New York Red Bulls in the playoffs, while NYCFC must look forward to next season.

Three moments that mattered
1' -- Lampard scores in the opening seconds -- Frank Lampard wasted no time putting NYCFC in the lead, scoring just 46 seconds into the match, the fastest goal in club history. David Villa had his shot stopped, but Lampard was there to follow up the rebound for to put the visitors ahead immediately.
73' -- Espindola equalizes for DC -- It was another goal off a rebound, this time for Fabian Espindola and DC United. Chris Pontius took a strong left-footed shot from outside the box, forcing Josh Saunders to make a save. However, Saunders pushed the rebound right into the middle of the box, leaving Espindola an easy finish.
90'+2' -- Saborio clinches the win in stoppage time -- When it looked like the match was going to end in a draw, Alvaro Saborio scored in the 92nd minute to clinch a playoff berth for D.C. NYCFC couldn’t clear a free kick out of the box, as the substitute Saborio pounced on the loose ball to bury the winner.
