The game in 100 words (or less): I’ve written, spoken and thought the word “disjointed” a lot this weekend. In that regard, Sporting Kansas City’s 1-1 draw with the New York Red Bulls was no different than seven of the eight MLS games played this weekend (VAN-TFC excepted). Where SKC-RBNY differed was during a pair of lethal moments in the final third. Where everyone else lacked quality in the final ball or finishing touch, Sporting KC and the Red Bulls came up aces.

Three moments that mattered

50' — Feilhaber puts it on a plate for Opara — Benny Feilhaber is underrated, and he’s sick of people not noticing him. He’s been a top-two or -three midfielder in MLS since Sept. 2013. The curling cross he played onto Ike Opara’s head couldn’t have made the subsequent finish any easier. Yo, Jurgen, holler at your boy Benny, OK?

54' — Sam exploits the space and equalizes — Neither Feilhaber nor Roger Espinoza are a true sitting midfielder, and they’re going to make mistakes when partnered. Espinoza over-committed on Lloyd Sam leaving an acre of space for Englishman to turn and shoot, and no ‘keeper in the world was getting a hand to his inch-perfect curler.

70' — Second yellow for Besler — It was a harsh call, and it certainly changed the outlook of the final 20 minutes. Sporting were on the front foot, pushing for a winner and looked likely to find it. Having to consolidate the midfield and get numbers behind the ball too all sting out of their quest for another goal.
