Two years ago, New York City FC and Orlando City FC helped build decent first-year rosters by selecting 10 players a piece in the MLS Expansion Draft.
This time around, Atlanta United and Minnesota United will get to choose only five players each on Dec. 13, with MLS sides being allowed to protect 11 players.
Atlanta and Minnesota will further be prohibited from selecting Homegrown Players and Generation Adidas players still on their first contract. And each team in MLS can only lose one player.

This is especially problematic for Atlanta, since Minnesota has been playing in the NASL for several years and will better be able to prepare with its current roster moving forward.
The 2014 draft saw NYC scoop up Tommy McNamara, Tony Taylor, and Ned Grabavoy, while Orlando added Donovan Ricketts and Jairo Arrieta (who both became valuable trade pieces).
The teams learn who picks first, and where they select in other drafts, on Oct. 16.
