A calm Jose Mourinho spoke following Manchester United’s third straight defeat, and he told reporters that more players need to exude confidence despite the poor run.

The Special One was pragmatic in his description of the game, saying his squad needs to understand that it is full of good players, and they must have the mentality to match their quality on the field.

“What I feel is that the first moment we had a defeat, and the difficult situation, some of the boys are having a little bit of difficulty to cope with that negativity.”

Mourinho did find one player who has still maintained a confident attitude despite the results, and he used that player as an example to the rest of the squad looking to make a point.

“I was telling the players immediately now that they have to cope more difficult, easier - depends on their personality. I could see for example, I gave them as an example of Ashley Young - the mentality, the happiness, the confidence he brought to the game is something that more players need to have this kind of positive attitude.”

Manchester United’s three straight defeats across all competitions mark the first time since 2002 that Jose Mourinho has lost three straight matches in the same season, dating back to his time in charge of FC Porto. It’s also his 15th loss in his last 34 matches in charge.
