If David Moyes had more days last season like the one he did Sunday, he might still be managing Manchester United.
After a season all-but-devoid of wins against big clubs, it’s taken Moyes just over a month to notch a signature win for Real Sociedad after the Txuriurdin scored early and then held on for dear life in knocking off Barcelona 1-0 on Sunday.

The manager knows that his club needs an influx of talent during the January transfer window, and that Lionel Messi, Dani Alves and Neymar started on the bench, but Moyes says it’s the first step for his new La Liga outfit: finding a way to knock off a giant.
From the BBC:“The win feels similar to the early days at Everton.
“How was I ever going to get a result against the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool, Man United at that time?”
...
“We’ve talked about Barcelona at my past clubs, at Everton and at Manchester United. I’ve watched them with admiration and we used to wonder how to possibly get a result against them,” said Moyes.
Without making jokes about how the formula of “get an own goal and defend to the death” isn’t going to get a coaching book written, getting three points against Barca can be a pivotal moment for a club looking for confidence. Sociedad finished 7th last season, so we’re not talking about minnows, but it’s a big win for Moyes.
