Lampard became NYC FC’s fourth player as the new franchise continues to take shape.

New York City FC Jason Kreis hailed “A-plus-plus-plus” player Frank Lampard as the longtime Chelsea man joined the ranks of those who have signed for the new Major League Soccer team on a two-year contract

The 36-year-old joins after 13 years at Stamford Bridge, where he won three Premier League titles, four FA Cups, a UEFA Champions League title and a UEFA Europa League crown.

Lampard joins former Spanish international David Villa, goalkeeper Josh Saunders and former Impact player Jeb Brovsky as NYCFC roster members. All three are on loan this summer.

In Lampard’s case, his near future is unclear. NYCFC director of football operations Claudio Reyna says the team still needs to sort out whether he could go to Melbourne City or somewhere else on loan, saying they are “exploring several options”.
