Well, we probably should have seen this one coming.
Despite the promising start for Mauricio Ponchettino’s side, brand new striker Pablo Daniel Osvaldo says he’s not a fan of the style of the Premier League, and his head is no longer at St. Marys.
“I’m already thinking about moving back to Argentina” said Osvaldo to The Sunday People. “I want to play for Boca (Juniors), that’s my dream. I have been dreaming about wearing Boca’s shirt during my entire life.”
The 27-year-old was born in Buenos Aires - the home city of Argentinian giants Boca Juniors - but plays internationally for Italy thanks to qualification through a great-grandfather.
The statement comes as no surprise, as Southampton are Osvaldo’s eighth club in eight years. Southampton plucked him off Serie A side Roma for €15 million ($20.3 million) this summer.
Fans may want to take his talk of a “dream” move home with a grain of salt, however. When he moved from Roma to Southampton, he described the switch as - you guessed it - something he had been “dreaming about.”
He’s found it increasingly difficult to adjust to the style of play in the Premier League, and he didn’t keep it a secret.
‘Football here is so physical, but it doesn’t have the technique and quality that it has in Spain” Osvaldo said.
The striker finally bagged his first Premier League goal last weekend against Crystal Palace.
