Portugal beat France 1-0 in the EURO 2016 final as Eder’s strike in extra time proved the difference between the two teams.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s injury aside, the game itself was a tight encounter with the hosts doing most of the pressing but a solid Portuguese defense holding them at arms length.

Then the winner arrived and Eder will be a hero forever in Portugal. The entire Portuguese side stood tall and battled hard, while France’s stars failed to shine on the biggest stage on home soil.

Here are the marks out of 10 for each player who featured in the final.

Rui Patricio - 9 - Great early save from Antoine Griezmann’s header, solid throughout and some great claims from crosses.

Cedric Soares - 7 - Pushed forward well offensively and had some issues with Coman but stuck to his task well.

Jose Fonte - 8 - Good in the air, locked down Giroud and helped lead the defense alongside Pepe.

Pepe - 9 - The Real Madrid center back was a beast, won the ball in the air and stood tall to lead the Portuguese to victory.

Raphael Guerreiro - 7 - Good on the ball and did his best to stop Sagna advancing down the right. Superb free kick in extra time which hit the bar.

William Carvalho - 7 - Solid, steady and always available to play the simple pass. Put out plenty of fires in front of Portugal’s back four.

Renato Sanches - 6 - Faded as the game wore on after a bright start. Youngest every player to feature in a Euro final. Will learn from this.

Joao Mario - 7 - Booked. Always looking to try and link up with Nani and make forward runs plus a great defensive run and block in extra time.

Adrien Silva - 5 - Did little to impact the game and couldn’t get on the ball.

Nani - 8 - The one player who looked dangerous and capable of scoring. Ran at France’s defense

Cristiano Ronaldo - 6 - Injured nine minutes in and subbed out after 25 minutes. A devastating blow for the superstar.

Subs: Ricardo Quaresma (On for Ronaldo, 25') - 6 - Acrobatic effort on goal and tried to keep the ball. Eder (On for Sanches, 79') - 8 - Good hold up play, caused problems. Joao Moutinho (On for Silva, 66') - 5 - Tidy on the ball but struggled to get involved.

Hugo Lloris - 6 - Almost got caught out from Nani’s cross but didn’t have much to do apart from that.

Bacary Sagna - 6 - Didn’t have much to do defensively and offered little going forward.

Laurent Koscielny - 6 - Made some key tackles when it mattered most. Solid but stood off Eder too long on the goal.

Samuel Umtiti - 5 - Booked for a rash challenge and struggled to cope with presence of Eder late in the game.

Patrice Evra - 6 - Tried to get forward but Cedric’s all-action display meant he was more worried about defensive duties.

Blaise Matuidi - 6 - Plugged away in the engine room but could have little impact on proceeedings.

Moussa Sisssoko - 8 - An absolute beast who ran at Portugal’s defense time and time again. Spanked a shot on goal. Will surely be getting a transfer from Newcastle.

Paul Pogba - 5 - On this showing, not worth anywhere near $100 million. Of course he’s got quality but in a big game he couldn’t dominate midfield.

Dimitri Payet - 5 - Subbed out early in the second half and he will be remembered for his tackle on Ronaldo. Not malicious but certainly knew what he was doing.

Antoine Griezmann - 5 - Flicked a header wide when unmarked six-yards out. A glaring miss from the top scorer at EURO 2016. Apart from that, did very little.

Olivier Giroud - 6 - Worked hard and only had one real chance in the second half which Patricio saved fairly easily.

Subs: Kinglsey Coman (On for Payet, 58') - 8 - Made several good runs forward, playing in Giroud and sending in a perfect cross which Griezmann somehow missed. Andre-Pierre Gignac (On for Giroud, 78') - 6 - Looked sharp and he made a glorious chance for himself, turning Pepe in the box but scuffing his close-range shot against the post. Anthony Martial (On for Sissoko, 110') - 5 - Little time to shine but did scuff a volley into the ground late on.
