- Man Utd leads all-time 11W-5D-8L
- Swans 2W-1D-5L since 2011
- Swans won 2-1 at Old Trafford on Aug. 16
After boosting all three points from Old Trafford to open the season, Swansea City could make history when Manchester United comes to visit Liberty Stadium this Saturday
The Welsh club hasn’t a point from both matches with United since the 1933/34 season in the old English Second Division, and has never swept both matches from the Red Devils in a season.
The standings tell a different tale, as Manchester United has rebounded quite well while Swansea City’s form has dipped after a red-hot start to the season. The Red Devils are in third place with 47 points, while Swans have dipped to 9th, within a pair of points of dropping to the bottom half of the table.
Swans have played surprisingly well against Manchester United since being promoted in 2011, but Garry Monk’s side is looking for its first Premier League win over the Red Devils.
What they’re saying
Swansea City manager Monk on United: “They have climbed the table and are in a good position. They have world-class players and I’m sure they are going to go from strength to strength as the season progresses. They can mix it up and change their style of play accordingly. It is a massive challenge for us but we’ll relish it.”
United’s Louis van Gaal on Swansea: “Swansea are a very good team. I like to see them playing. They want to play football. They want to make the game a passing game like we do, so I like that kind of football. I hope it shall be a match like that.”
Prediction
Swans have just two points from their past three matches at Liberty Stadium, while United has managed at least a point from its past six road matches. I think they’ll get at least one come Saturday, but Monk will make sure his clubs picks up 4 from a season versus the Manchester side for the first time in 80-plus years. 1-1 at the Liberty.
