Longtime Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard has made no secret he’d like to get into management one day, and that Anfield would be an ideal spot to start his coaching career.

His options are far reaching since leaving LA Galaxy earlier this week. Gerrard, 36, has reportedly been speaking with League One’s MK Dons regarding their open manager’s spot.

But he’s also had some big names interesting in him as a player, according to the rumor mill. Former managers Brendan Rodgers (Celtic) and Rafa Benitez (Newcastle United) had been mentioned as suitors, though the former played it down late this week.

Now another name: Inter Milan. The longtime Serie A powers are struggling at mid table and the Independent reports that Gerrard was a board room target before Frank De Boer was fired last week.

The report says that Inter would give Gerrard a six-month contract that would allow the midfielder to play through this season. The questions now are whether new boss Stefano Pioli wants Gerrard in town, and the player is cool with delaying his coaching plans.

Robbie Keane and Paul Ince are among the Premier League players to have experience with Inter, which has the Milan Derby on Sunday at the San Siro.

Given the quality and reputation of the Premier League, UK players rarely play in the other top leagues in Europe (Joe Hart and Gareth Bale are recent exceptions). We’d sign up to see how Gerrard fares in Serie A.
