Sami Khedira to be offered pre-contract agreement at Chelsea?
With Sami Khedira’s future at Real Madrid still very much uncertain, the German midfielder is reportedly close to joining Premier League side Chelsea and linking up with his old boss Jose Mourinho.
Khedira, 27, will be out of contract next summer with reigning European Champions Real Madrid and, so far, contract talks between the player and Real have broken down.
The holding midfielder, who won the World Cup with Germany in Brazil this summer, was courted by several Premier League teams over the summer, including Arsenal, but Khedira will able to sort out a pre-contract arrangement in January ahead of a free transfer in July.
According to the London Evening Standard, Chelsea will offer Khedira a pre-contract in January as Mourinho looks to add further steel to his skillful midfield. It is thought that adding Khedira alongside Serbian powerhouse Nemanja Matic would allow Cesc Fabregas to play in a more advanced role for the Blues.
It is believed that Khedira would cost $16 million to buy in January, but Chelsea and the player are willing to hold on until next summer so he can move from free. Mourinho is a big fan of the former VFB Stuttgart star and the pair have a great relationship after working together at Real Madrid.
So far this season Khedira has spent plenty of time on the sidelines and has been out injured for the past six weeks since suffering a muscle injury. He is now back in full training for Real, but whether or not he plays a big role at the Santiago Bernabeu remains to be seen as his future seems to be elsewhere.
Can you imagine Khedira and Matic breaking up play in midfield and letting Oscar, Fabregas and Eden Hazard run riot to feed balls into Diego Costa next season?
Sounds pretty special.
