But Spanish journalist Guillem Balague, who’s right more often than he’s not, says Simeone has had loads of offers (which of course isn’t surprising).

Would you have chosen a super long deal to stay with Atlei over some of the biggest money clubs in the world? Job security is special. Ask Alan Pardew.

“He had a huge offer from City, a huge offer from PSG, from two Italian teams, but he is close to signing a new deal with Atletico Madrid until 2020,” Balague said.

“Five more years, and that is not normal in Spanish football but Atletico Madrid realise they need Simeone and Simeone realises he is happy with what Atletico Madrid does.”

It’s always interesting to read which teams were entirely prepare to cut ties with their current manager, although neither Laurent Blanc (PSG) nor Manuel Pellegrini (Man City) have been considered as sure-fire job keepers.
