Ricardo “Tuca” Ferretti is set to take over the Mexican national team on a temporary basis.
El Tri were without a manager after Miguel Herrera was fired following his physical altercation with a journalist earlier this summer, but now it looks like Mexico has found it’s man.

The Brazilian-born Ferretti had a long playing career in Mexico, and has been managing in the country for more than 20 years. He is currently in his third stint as boss at Tigres UANL, where he won the Liga MX title in 2011. He has also won the league title with Guadalajara and UNAM.
Speaking to television station Televisa, Mexico soccer federation’s president Decio di Maria said they had a verbal agreement with Ferretti to manage El Tri for the next four matches.I can tell you that in a conversation we had that Ricardo offered to work during the national team’s upcoming matches.
We don’t have anything signed, we have the word of Ricardo. I think next week we will be in a position to make an official announcement.
We will work together for these four games.”
That means Ferretti will be on the touchline for Mexico’s massive clash with the United States on October 10, with the winner clinching a berth in the Confederations Cup.
According to a statement posted on Tigres’ official website, the club said that Ferretti plans to return to his current position after the four game stint with Mexico is over. However, should El Tri win the playoff match against the USMNT, one would assume the federation would try and keep Ferretti on with the national team.
