Newcastle United 2-2 Chelsea - RECAP
A goal in each half from Ayoze Perez and Georginio Wijnaldum put Newcastle 2-0 up against Chelsea but Jose Mourinho’s side came roaring back as a stunner from Ramires and a late Willian free kick, which evaded everyone in the box, made it 2-2. This was a big result for the Blues as the reigning champs rallied to secure a memorable comeback just as the Magpies looked to have secured their first win of the season. Mourinho still hasn’t won at St James’ Park but he will be happy with the comeback. Steve McClaren will be pleased with the display but is still searching for his first PL win as Newcastle’s boss.
Tottenham Hotspur 4-1 Manchester City - RECAP
Mauricio Pochettino’s side blew away City in a stunning 15 minute spell either side of half time. Kevin de Bruyne’s goal put City ahead after 25 minutes but Eric Dier leveled controversially before the break. In the second half goals from Toby Alderweireld, Harry Kane (breaking his goal drought) and Eric Lamela sealed Spurs’ third-straight win as City lost for the second-straight game and were without the injured Joe Hart and Vincent Kompany.

Manchester United 3-0 Sunderland - RECAP
For the first time since Sir Alex Ferguson retired over two years ago, Manchester United is top of the Premier League. Yes, it is early days, but Louis van Gaal’s side were ruthless against Sunderland as Memphis struck in first half stoppage time, then Wayne Rooney (also ending his goal drought) scored 46 seconds into the second half to make it 2-0. Juan Mata sealed the win late on against a Sunderland side who still haven’t won a game and sit bottom of the table. To make things even sweeter, United leapfrogged rivals City to go top.
Liverpool 3-2 Aston Villa - RECAP
Daniel Sturridge scored twice in the second half to grab his first goals since March and lead Liverpool to victory. James Milner scored after 69 seconds before Sturridge’s superb volley made it 2-0, but Rudy Gestede pulled one back to make it 2-1. Sturridge scored soon after to ease Liverpool’s nerves, but then Gestede hit back again to make it 3-2 and set up a nervous final 20 minutes for the home side. Brendan Rodgers is still under plenty of pressure, but grabbing a win and having Sturridge back to this best will certainly help out.
Leicester City 2-5 Arsenal - RECAP
Leicester went ahead through Jamie Vardy but the Gunners came roaring back as Theo Walcott scored and Alexis Sanchez helped himself to a hat trick. Vardy made it 4-2 late on, but then Olivier Giroud grabbed another for the Gunners as Arsene Wenger’s side are only three points off United at the top of the table. Leicester’s time as the only unbeaten side in the PL is now over but once again they put up a brave fight.
Southampton 3-1 Swansea City - RECAP
Saints secured their second win of the season and moved into the top 10 with a relatively comfortable win over the Swans. Virgil van Dijk scored his first goal for the club in the first half, then Dusan Tadic and Sadio Mane added a goal each in the second half. Swansea got a late consolation through Gylfi Sigurdsson’s PK but it’s now three games without a win for Garry Monk’s side. As for Saints, despite the win their manager Ronald Koeman was not happy with the performance at all.
Stoke City 2-1 Bournemouth - RECAP
Phew. The Potters finally have a win on the board as they scrapped away and beat the Cherries at the Britannia Stadium. Jonathan Walters gave them the lead but Bouremouth -- who were impacted by Callum Wilson going off in the first half with a serious looking injury -- leveled through Dan Gosling late on. Mame Diouf then emerged as the hero for Stoke as Mark Hughes’ men climbed out of the bottom three and to within one-point of 16th placed Bournemouth.
West Ham 2-2 Norwich City - RECAP
Norwich City twice led through Robbie Brady and Nathan Redmond but the Hammers fought back and equalized through Diafra Sakho and Cheikhou Kouyate. The latter’s goal came in second half stoppage time to deny the Canaries a win. Speaking of birds, the game was delayed as a pigeon was stranded on the pitch during the encounter. The Hammers remain third in the PL, while Norwich sit in 13th.
