With his ongoing contract negotiations causing plenty of headlines, Steven Gerrard has been assured one thing: he will always be able to call Liverpool Football Club home.

Gerrard, 34, has been offered a new contract by Liverpool after previously stating he would consider playing elsewhere next season, as his current deal only runs until the end of the 2014-15 campaign.

Liverpool’s captain has spent his entire career at Anfield but was moved into a deeper role last season by manager Brendan Rodgers as his marauding forward runs became less frequent. This season Gerrard has been rested on the bench for several games as the Reds juggle games domestically and in Europe, with many pundits and fans believing Gerard’s powers could be wavering.

However Liverpool’s chief executive Ian Ayre was asked about Gerrard’s contract situation on Thursday, as the club confirmed Anfield will be expanded, and seemed pretty confident their main man will be around for quite some time.

“We have a fantastic dialogue with Steven and his representatives,” Ayre said. “We have made an offer to Steven and we have to be respectful to him and where he is in his career. There is no pressure from our side. The one thing I can say is he will always be a part of this football club whatever his decision He is an iconic part of this football club and we want to see him here for many years - and that is not just about his playing career. He has been a fantastic servant to this football club and we don’t expect that to change. If you ask Steven Gerrard he will say he wants to be here as long as he can.”

Gerrard has recently moved to cool reports that he has fallen out with his manager after being rested against Stoke City, as he then scored the go-ahead goal against Leicester City in the Reds’ 3-1 win on Tuesday.

He has shown his quality once again this season, either off the bench or from the start, and it certainly seems like he’s worthy of at least another two-year deal at his hometown club. At least. As the club have confirmed, there is an offer on the table to extend his playing days at Anfield.

Steven, the ball is now in your court.
