Future Los Angeles Football Club midfielder Steven Gerrard says his days at Liverpool could be numbered.
Okay, okay: the LAFC part is a joke related to the new MLS club’s ambition and money, but Gerrard really could play his football outside of Merseyside next season if Liverpool doesn’t offer him a new deal.
The 34-year-old midfielder would prefer to stay with the Reds, of course, but will not retire a one-club man if the club doesn’t want him to stick around.

Gerrard has played in 678 matches for Liverpool since debuting in 1998, and joined the club’s youth team at the age of 7. All told, it’s been 27 years at Anfield, but it could end after the season.
In a report from the Associated Press, Gerrard says it’s “Liverpool’s decision.”
“I will play beyond this season,” he said. “We will have to wait and see if that’s at Liverpool or somewhere else.”
He’ll “see what’s out there” if no offer from Liverpool emerges. Is it a no-doubter that the Reds keep him around?
Gerrard shown his dedication to club ball by retiring from the England team, and has scored four goals across all competitions since returning to Liverpool after the World Cup.
It’s difficult to imagine him playing in a different shirt, but one-club men grow more rare by the season. Will Gerrard go down as a Paul Scholes, or will he be a Frank Lampard? Perhaps the key lies in the latter, who was bold enough to accept his loan to Manchester City and scored against Chelsea.
Surely we won’t see Stevie G. in the same exact situation. Right? Right?
