Stoke City 2-1 Bournemouth: Diouf leads win over injury-hit Cherries

Stoke City leapt out of the relegation zone despite a scare from Bournemouth at the Brittania Stadium on Saturday.

Jon Walters and Mame Biram Diouf scores for Mark Hughes’ side, with Dan Gosling briefly putting the game in the balance late in a 2-1 final.

The game was delayed twice in the first 20 minutes, both for injuries to Callum Wilson. The Cherries’ star striker soldiered through the first incident, but needed a stretcher on the follow-up. His ankle looked in an awful way, and Bournemouth fans are right to be concerned.

Stoke broke through on a flashy move, as Marko Arnautovic broke Simon Francis’ ankles before cutting the ball back from the end line, where Walters made no doubt in putting the Potters up 1-0.

Ex-Newcastle and Everton man Gosling equalized with a deflected shot in the 76th minute, but the deadlock barely existed before Stoke retook the lead.

It was 83rd minute when Glen Johnson’s terrific cross was headed home by Diouf, giving Stoke its first win of the season.
