In what could be a confidence builder for Sam Allardyce’s Black Cats, Sunderland reportedly throttled Newcastle United 6-0 in a closed-door friendly on Wednesday.
With both teams out of the League Cup and FA Cup, it made sense to stay active with no Premier League matches until midweek.

But Sunderland was obviously keyed up for the match, as Duncan Watmore scored a hat trick and Steven Fletcher added two more. Jack Rodwell also scored.
The media wasn’t on hand, but Sunderland was said to have fielded a stronger squad than Newcastle, which boasted several U-21 and Academy players.
Either way, 6-0!
Newcastle is two points shy of safety, and two points ahead of Sunderland in the Premier League table, but has lost six-straight PL derbies to the Black Cats. Closed door friendly or not, 6-0 is woof-worthy.
