Despite conflicting reports, U.S. Soccer chief Sunil Gulati has come out and said that no conversations have been had with Mexico regarding a joint World Cup bid for 2026.

A story by ESPN FC originally reported that the U.S. and Mexico had begun discussing an aforementioned joint bid, while also mentioning that if an agreement couldn’t be struck that the U.S. would likely submit a solo bid.
“We haven’t made a decision about the [2026] World Cup. Until we know what the rules are of the bid process -- which won’t be until October at the earliest -- we’re not going to be making a decision,” he said. “And we certainly haven’t had any formal discussions with the Mexican federation at this point.”
