Gylfi Sigurdsson’s controversially-awarded penalty looked set to give Iceland its first EURO win, but Hungary forced a late goal to win its fourth point of the tournament in France in a 1-1 draw.
The draw moves Hungary three points clear of Portugal and two ahead of Iceland before Saturday’s 3 p.m. kickoff between Portugal and winless Austria.

Hungary was the superior team for the first 35 minutes, but conceded a penalty when goalkeeper Gábor Király had trouble hanging onto a cross and the ref spotted a blocking foul on Tamas Kadar.
Whether the former Newcastle man stepped into the challenge is up for debate, but what Sigurdsson did with his opportunity was not. The Swansea man converted with power and Iceland had a 1-0 lead.
Hungary captain Balázs Dzsudzsák banged a free kick over the wall in the 76th minute, but Hannes Þór Halldórsson slid over to comfortably catch the attempt.
It was a dribble and drive from Nemanja Nikolic that led to the equalizer. Birkir Már Sævarsson will go down as the own goal scorer of record, but Hungary striker Adam Szalai was well-positioned to slide home the ball had it evaded the defender.
Sigurdsson hit a 18-yard free kick into the Hungary wall at the death.
