Our neighbor to the south is making some U.S. player-related news today.
First on Tuesday came the news that DaMarcus Beasley has moved from his current Liga MX home to a new one in Mexico, from Puebla to rival Queretaro.
The most important thing for Beasley, the closest thing the United States national team has to a starting left back at the moment, is that he keeps playing games. He was getting them at Puebla, so let’s keep our fingers crossed.
By the way, raise your paw if you would have liked to have seen Beasley, 31, back in MLS. The move between Liga MX clubs doesn’t mean he cannot get into MLS this summer, but it would seem to make such a trek north less likely.
Meanwhile, also out of Mexico, someone would like to employ Landon Donovan. That “someone” is Club Atlas, a side that has fallen onto hard times.
Well, that’s great and all; they would like to sign Donovan. And I would like to receive 50 percent off and walk away hassle-and-haggle free on my next new car purchase – but I doubt that’s going to happen, either.
Donovan just re-signed with the Galaxy. He seems happy as a clam, his soccer spirit rejuvenated, his life in Manhattan Beach just swell.
Bruce Arena keeps telling people that Donovan isn’t “going anywhere.” He was speaking about loans, mostly, but it seems fair to speculate that Arena would broaden his “not going anywhere” sentiments to any and all offers from all the sundry corners of the soccer universe.
Donovan does want to go to a fourth World Cup. He is settled with the Galaxy. He gets starts. He loves sunny So Cal. Life is a freakin’ peach.
He’s not about to turn all that upside down for some new fling with a club on the skids in Mexico.
