Alfredo Morales played a pivotal role in FC Ingolstadt’s promotion to the Bundesliga, and now he’ll look to help the club cement its future in Germany’s top flight.

The 8-times capped USMNT midfielder, 25, has signed a new three-year deal with the nascent German side. FC Ingolstadt was formed from the merger of ESV Ingolstadt and MTV Ingolstadt in 2004, and will enter the Bundesliga after just 11 years.

Morales hasn’t found his form with Jurgen Klinsmann’s bunch, but has earned the faith of manager Ralph Hasenhüttl.

The 25-year-old, who joined the Audi Boys from Hertha Berlin two summers back, notched two goals and six assists in 32 league contests this season. has learned that Morales, who was set to run out of contract at the end of June, had pre-deal proposals from a handful of 2. Bundesliga sides. However, Ingolstadt quickly made sure he would return for their inaugural Bundesliga campaign.

“Alfredo is an important part of our team,” FCI sport director Thomas Linke told the club website. “He is also not done developing. We are delighted that he will continue with us.”

We’ll see how Morales fares in this stint at the next level, as he joins USMNT veterans Fabian Johnson (Borussia Monchengladbach), Timmy Chandler (Eintracht Frankfurt), Julian Green (Bayern Munich), Joe Gyau (Borussia Dortmund) and John Anthony Brooks (Hertha Berlin) in the Bundesliga.

Morales played sparingly for Hertha Berlin in the Bundesliga from 2011-12.
