Saturday was a good day to be a member of the New York Red Bulls.
They may have lost to D.C. United 2-1 on the day, but a 3-2 aggregate victory saw the Red Bulls through to the Eastern Conference finals, just one round away from their second MLS Cup appearance in club history.
This was, of course cause for celebration among Red Bulls fans, including the 1,200 of them that traveled down I-95 to RFK Stadium to see their side eliminate the East’s No. 1 seed and RBNY’s bitter rivals.
Head coach Mike Petke, who played for both clubs and is no stranger to the D.C.-New York rivalry, saw this as a perfect opportunity to jump into the stands, celebrate with the club’s loyal supporters, family and friends, and thank them for their support.
UPDATE: Petke has taken to Twitter to speak glowingly of the Red Bulls’ traveling support.Never in all my years in MLS have I been so humbled and moved as I was today looking up in Section 300. To the South Ward and all who made
