Canada will battle Switzerland in the round of 16 in Women’s World Cup--an elimination game deciding the destiny of these two countries on the global stage.
John Herdman’s outfit wasn’t boasting large-margined victories during the group stage run, with a 1-0 win over China, a 0-0 draw against New Zealand and a 1-1 draw to the Netherlands. Canada still came out on top of Group A with five points, the lowest total of any group winner at the tournament.
Switzerland grabbed only one win in tournament’s beginning when they trounced Ecuador 10-1, but the Swiss fell short in their two other matches, losing to incumbent WWC champion Japan, 1-0, and to Cameroon, 2-1.
