Every player imagines his first professional goal to come in a big spot against great competition, and the 20-year-old American’s first senior marker for Schalke hits both of those targets.
Level with Lokomotiv Moscow in the 88th minute of Schalke’s UEFA Champions League group stage encounter in Russia, McKennie powered a header home to give his side all three points.
It was McKennie’s 33rd match for Schalke, and he played in the No. 10 role of the club’s 4-2-3-1 formation.
McKennie had an assist in his UCL debut two weeks ago, a 1-1 draw against Porto.
